Inhabitants - preliminary tests by Amnion

Audio test created for a contemporary dance film piece currently in production.

The tone of the film is keeping to a dark ambient aesthetic. Themes circle around ideas of decay and decomposition, isolation, fear and horror.
There's a certain palette of sounds I'm choosing to use, in particular the manipulation of violin strings to replicate creaking, drone and breathy textures.

After discussions with the director and choreographer of the film I feel like this track is a good place to start but I'm sure things will change and progress further as the creative momentum picks up.

Comments and feedback please.

Busily working on the sound design for a new project by

'Inhabitants' is a unique fusion of live
contemporary dance performance and film.

Inhabitants will be presented at this years
Mapping Festival in Geneva 26th May.

I will upload some audio sketches soon.

Going to put on a DJ mix for the kids at school that showcases some of the work produced by my digital music class. Ultimately this is just an opportunity to promote the subject and given that I have not received a lot of finished work I'll have to cut in a lot extra beats and breaks to keep things flowing. Hopefully this is well received by the kids, I can't help but feel anxious of my students brutal and devastating honesty when giving their opinions on artistic expression.

Created this poster using vector files in Illustrator. Went for a grunge rock'n roll aesthetic.

Pricey's Breakdown seemed like an apt title.

I downloaded a video clip from the net and the result was a completely glitched up corrupted file. Seeing as though I had wasted my time downloading this useless file I decide to waste
some more time by syncing up some of my noisy sounds to the visual glitches. I found the abstract digital malfunction in this clip quite seductive in the way it shifted and jumped around.

In the end it was an fun exercise and perhaps not such a waste of time after all.

Noisy and glitchy. Comments welcome

This is my EP titled 'EXP1' released this year on Bottle Imp Productions.

The cover was designed by my good friend Glenn McComb. You check out some of his other photos on his web site at www.clinch.com.au
I chose this photo because it has a beautiful point of perspective that draws your eye into the image and focuses on the text 'Amnion'. The strong sharpness of the metal beams against the blurred backdrop create a great sense of depth and contrast between the background and foreground images. These contrasting elements, coupled with the seductive monochromatic tones, complement the music and successfully frames the listening experience in the context of industrial ambient sound scape music.

You can download 'EXP1' for free here.

If you would like to check out the sounds before you download the EP, go to my Amnion Myspace for an earful.
